Abstract

The purpos e of this study was to understand Kor ean culture in order to est ablish the
foundation of nursing of Korean style. That why this survey is trying to understand
shamanism(ÙãÎç), which is at the same time the emotional foundation of Korean people.
Concretely speaking, this paper is dealing with history and function of shamanism and its
view of disease, its method of diseas e- prevention and disease- cure etc.
The principle of remedy shamanism does is changing the disharmony between the
heaven (ô¸), earth (ò¢) and human (ìÑ) into harmony between them. To do this , shamans (ÙãÓÑ) pray gods (ãê) for help or try to cast away ghosts (Сãê) or put the patient s into fire
symbolically.
Through this survey I would like to conclude and propose as follows.
First , the fundamental elements of shamanism have been preserved constantly from
antique to now without any change in its basic structure.
Second, to understand the viewpoint of shamanism about man and ethics is necessary
condition for the comprehension of contempor ary Korean.
Third, it is demanding to search for positive elements shamanism has in order to
improve the nursing of Korean style and make progress in it .
Fourth, there are also the negative elements in shamanism, that is , it has the tendencies
as follows to rely on another too strongly (ëîöâîÜ), to subs erve to great authority (ÞÀÓÞîÜ),
to take a serious view of family too much (Ê«ðéñéãýîÜ), to weigh its effect s too much
regardless of justice of its motive and its process (üùéÄàõð¯ìéñ«ëùîÜ). However I dar e to
think that we may abstract positive elements even from thos e negative ones through
clinical investigation.
